This question sort of came up in a thread the other day, but I didn’t want to ask there as it would have taken things off topic.
So I currently have a MX900 which I use happily without a mat, planning to upgrade soon possibly to a G9 or something similar. Now I have no problems at the moment, and I find the mouse moves around smoothly enough on my wooden desktop surface, but a lot of people here seem to think a mat is needed. Just wondering if laser mice are more picky about the surface or anything like that compared to older optical mice? I’d rather not mess about with a mat if possible.
