I've seen these new fangled tools becoming more popular and wondered if it was worth adding one to my DeWalt xr armoury of cordless tools.

Are they mostly used for fiddly bits of sanding?

Thanks everyone for your replies. I might ask for one for my birthday. I have a large collection of bits of saw blade, pointy things, and lots of differently sized sanding blocks which have done their job so far.

I use mine a lot! It is one of the few power tools which will cut flush, so if a dowel is sticking out of wood it will cut it completely flush without marking the surrounding timber. When the router has left the mortice with rounded corners the multitool is quicker than a chisel for getting them straight. The windows I have, have a sloped bottom rail which was great for single glazing but needs taking flat for double glazing, and there is no other tool which can do the job.

I will say though, like most tools corded is going to give much more power, and be faster and neater, so unless you really need cordless buy the highest power corded one you can.

Thanks for your comments. I notice these multitools seem to be very carpentry oriented. Are there other uses than woodwork?

Update:

I've ordered the Aldi Ferrex multi tool for £25, I already have a battery for a Ferrex strimmer.

It comes with some bits, so I'll see how it goes.
