Hey Guys,

Need some advice on cooling.

I have the following system:

I7 socket 1366
6g of OCZ gold series RAM
2x 1tb Hdd
ati 4890 gpu
scythe ninja hsf
asus p6tse mobo replaced with Gigabyte UD5
lian li pc 7+ case

2 weeks ago my machine stopped working. I switched it on in the morning and no display.

I have tested all components and believe the mobo is fried. So I now have a new mobo a Gigabyte UD5

I am about to rebuild my machine but was wondering whether I should change the HSF? If yes, can you recommend one that will fit my new mobo and my case?, something that is not too expensive like £60 + is too much.

I had overclocked my CPU but will not be doing so again.

I also need thermal paste, can you recommend some?

Your opinions would be appreciated, sorry for the long post

Cheers

Your current heatsink should still fit ok as your still using a socket 1366 motherboard. I assume that your ram is low profile stuff?

Your Ninja should do just fine.

Your case has limited airflow and will limit you cooling more than the Ninja does. If you don't need to use 3x of your 5.25 optical bays turning them into another intake vent would help a lot.

thanks guys

the ram is the OCZ gold series, what do you mean by low profile?

can you pls recommend some thermal paste?

cheers

Low profile is in reference to how tall RAM is. Cooler clearance is often limited by the combined height of RAM and cooler fan. 45mm RAM + 120mm fan = 165mm case clearance needed. 140mm fan + 45mm RAM = 185mm case clearance.

I'm using Arctic MX-4.
