Do I need a new monitor?

Hi all,

I have recently upgraded my PC and have found that when playing games I have horizontal shimmering lines on the screen.

The monitor I have is a Samsung 223 BW which is @ 60hz. I've tried turning the graphics options up to maximum on BF3 / Skyrim but I still get the lines.

Am I correct in thinking that the lines are caused by the PC churning out a higher FPS than the monitor can display?

If so, could I have some recommendations for sub £250 monitors (24 or 27inch) as after reading the reviews on the site I'm no better off as everything seems to score well!

Have you tried turning on V Sync? But what your describing doesnt sound like screen tearing. Do the lines only appear during gaming or are they there on your desktop ect?

I've turned the v sync on in the nvidia control panel and it has made the problem a lot better. However, instead of having "shimmering" lines I now have solid horizontal lines that look as though they are a different contrast or brightness. This is most obvious in dark rooms / corridors.

The problem is only when playing games (even when using a game menu before I've started playing), when using the monitor with my laptop the lines do not happen.
