Well i got the money and im getting that itchey feeling when you want a new pc, but do i need one?

Current spec.
AMD 64x2 dual core 4800.
L2 cache 1,024kb.
Ram 2gb
Motherboard Asus A8R-MVP.
Radeon X1900.
Windows Vista Home Basic.

I use it to browse, play Counterstrike source and any other new games that are comming along.
If I do buy my budget would be about £1400.00, but should I do it now? Just cant decide.

thx...rob

You really don't have to upgrade unless you feel the need to play at max everything in every game. I wouldn't.

If you must, I suggest a new graphics card. Try the 8800 GTS on for size.

I'd personally stick with XP myself. Even though some are having no problems with Vista I feel it still early days and XP is solid. Some games have also shown that DX9 is offering better performance over Vista and DX10. :)

Just one more question, if you bought a new PC now would you go for vista 64bit?
Yes.

And I agree that it is worth waiting until about Easter for a big upgrade :) You can either pick up the new tech or cheap 2nd hand parts (Q6600/8800GTX etc).

I wouldn't say that you really need a new PC imo, seems good enough for what you do. I think it could wait a bit longer :).

The PC seems OK, if it does everything you want it to do. But what made you choose Vista Home Basic? It's... well... basic! Can't see any reason to have it over XP.

Would wait till March'ish and new Gpu/Cpu offerings - for new p.c.

If you have 'the itch' - soundcard (assuming you don't have one); really good 5.1 speakers; digital tv T.V card(dual tuner) are items you could look at and all of 'em should be reusable in new machine.
