Hi, i would really appreciate a minute of someones time

The story:

I tried to update my asus mb bios - failed midway and left it redundant.

I got a new one (gigabyte ep41-ud3l), installed it and the system didnt post or beep but all the lights came on, fans, hd light etc.

I sent it back and they sent me a new one which i installed today but am having exactly the same problem.

What can i do next - i dont think its the power supply as all fans/lights/mb lights etc are coming on.

Is it the processor? Will a system beep/post or do anything without a working processor?

If i get a new one do you think the system will post?

thank you so much!!

I think it could be the processor because my pc did the exact same things when the cpu died.No beeps,no post just the fans spinning and then stopping.

Check your voltages in BIOS for your ram and set them manually.

If that doesn't do anything, leave just 1 stick of ram, graphics card, and processor and see will it post then.

i cant get into the bios cause it wont post!!

as for the ram, i have 4 sticks of the same type so i can try all four but im skeptical. it was all working fine when i previously messed up the system with a failed bios update.

Firstly, just to confirm - do you have a motherboard speaker connected? Probably seems obvious, but you won't hear any beeps if you don't :)

It could be the CPU, but it's unlikely. I could count on one hand the number of dead Core2 CPUs I've seen that haven't been killed through overvolting.

More likely is some kind of compatibility issue, perhaps with the RAM. I'd start by taking all the RAM out and starting the system. If the motherboard and CPU are working, there should be beeps from the motherboard speaker.

what do you mean by motherboard speaker.

at the moment i have plugged the case's group pin 'Audio' connector to the onboard hd audio (near the extrernal rear audio panel)

i also have th ac97 individual audio connectors but am not using them at this time?

ive got speakers on and have connected a speaker cable to the green speaker connector at the rear?

I mean one of these:

It should be plugged into your motherboard near to the power switches. If you don't have one then you probably won't hear any beeps since most motherboards don't play them through your actual speakers.

i managed to make it post.

i connected a power cable to my graphics card and also found out a module of ram was dead, at least im running now!!

thanks everyone who helped.
