Hi, i have a OCZ 420ADJ PSU. I have a a8v deluxe mobo, 2gbram, and a new opteron 185 proc and a new HIS x1950pro AGP 590mhz clock engine 512mb GDDR3.
i am exerpiencing random things like pc restarting its self, the screen going blank, forcing me to restart my self. this does not seem to happen when i stress my computer like gaming, or when i leave it on overnight for downloads. it only seems to happen when i surf lol.
is there anyway i can find out what my gfx card requires for power? and if it is more then what i have can i juice my current PSU or will i need to buy one?

If the option is to buy, what would be a good PSU to run my system and to future proof as well (i.e in 3 years when i get a new and can transfer my PSU over) or should i just get a standard PSU that can do the job nicely.
thanks for any info.

checked the specs of the psu you mentioned and it should be fine, 12v line is 30A which should be enough for the x1950, unless the psu itself has a fault.

what drivers are you using on the 1950, noticed it was agp so you shouldnt go any higher than catalyst 7.7 as theres an issue with 7.8/7.9's.

for a replacement psu have a look at the corsair 520w.

Thanks for checking that out for me man. i had a problem with one of my voltage on my PSU, i had 1 red light. i changed it so it became green again.
Then restarted but soon after my pc restarted again in the same manner. has not done it since tho, im going to keep a close eye on it.
As for drivers, im currently using the one that came with the card. originally i had downloaded the latest driver, so im just gonna see how things hold up. if it becomes persistant i guess i have no choice, but at the moment im optimistic expecially with what you told me :D

small brain wave. what if the graphic card is overheating? could it do that? like a fail safe it restarts or switches my monitor off or something?

Was playing TF2 and it cut between a game so i know it does do it during gaming as well. i took the lid off and felt the card, it felt pretty hot.

My CPU fan is very close to the GFX card, it only has low RPM as its a Scythe Infinity, but given that the agp slot is very close to cpu, i was not sure where to place the fan, in the end i put it facing the back side of my gfx card, tho i could turn it to my other fans or facing the metal casing of the PSU.
My CPU temp was around 35-42, never saw it go above 45 so i know it aint my temp.
right now i have my case off as i touched my GFX card again and now it feels cool, also my CPU temp is down to 31oC. Think this could possibly be a problem?

Are there any programs that lets me monitor the temp of my GFX card?
