Hi, been putting together my new PC. Gone from:-

e6750 c2d
abit ip-35
2gb ram
His 6950
Corsair hx520

To:-

Gigabyte z68xp-ud3p
2500k
8gb ram
his 6950
corsair hx520

As you can see the graphics card and psu are the same in both systems so i presumed that they would work. However, no matter what i try the graphics card is not recognised in the pci-e slot and there is no video output. The power is all connected up fine and the fan spins but i still don't get an out put.

If i install my old 4850 it is recognised and works fine. Likewise, if i reassemble my old components the card works.

Do i just need a new psu for this machine as that is the only thing i can think of that might be causing me problems

PSU is fine for that system as long as it's working properly.

I assume you have pushed the graphics card fully in, I've seen plenty of graphics issues that have just been the card not quite seated fully in the PCI-E, particluarly with large dual slot cards on new Mobos. Sometimes you have to use a fair amount of careful force.

You could also test it in the 2nd PCI Express x16 even though it runs a x8 it should still work. Just to make sure it's not some odd contact issue.

Power wise the 6950 idles at 20 W, so it really shouldn't be a power issue just to run to desktop.

Thanks, i was kind of wondering how it would not work despite the low idle power too.

I have tried it in both slots but I must confess that i'm not 100% happy that it is seating correctly in the slot. My 4850 seems to fit so much better.
