I have an Antec Earthwatts EA650 that I bought after reading the review on "johnnyguru" (back in 2010, so the discontinued Earthwatts series) I sent the original purchase back due to buzzing and got a replacement 2 years ago. So the PSU is physically 2 years old and was released in 2008.
My question is do you think a need a new power supply to run modern hardware such as a AMD radeon 280x, GTX780 / 970? How much have PSU's developed in terms of reliability and components inside them in the last 6 years? Or are they basically the same as they were 6 years ago?
Is my Earthwatts EA650 which is less than 2 years old going to be alright or would it be safer to upgrade my PSU when I get new hardware? I notice a very quiet buzzing from it sometimes I am not sure if this is normal.
Also if the PSU dies what is the probability of it taking out other components? I have never had any problems with this other than slight buzzing but if I am spending £700 on new components I want to be sure it will be ok and will not damage them!
