I'm currently using the O2 Wireless Box II

My connection also drops probably twice a day but sometimes it can sync for more than a week... When it reconnects the sync speed varies from 18,600 to 19,100.

Will it stop doing this if I buy a new router? It's really annoying when doing something important (gaming :p) and connection drops.

Or, will it stop if I buy a RJ45 surge protector?

Yeah, it'll probably stop syncing at all with a surge protector. That'll fix it.

If you want to stop it losing sync get O2 to turn up the target SNR margin. You'll lose some speed but it should be more stable.
Have you already tried the usual things, router at the master socket, no extensions?
