Hi,,

Just got a PS3 and am trying to connect to my PC. The PC is connected via CAT5 to a router in the other side of my house. I have plugged the PS3 cable into the spare LAN port of my PC but it isn't detecting the PC.

I am unable to connect the PS3 directly to the router as its in the other part of my house.

I guess I'm basically asking what am I doing wrong ?

Thanks

OK my motherboard is Asus P5W DH Deluxe. The LAN port(s) are Marvell Yukon Gigabit if that helps ?

And no I can't get the router into the same room as the PS3

I actually have another Netgear ADSL Modem / Router thats not in use, Can I plug that into the spare LAN port on my PC then connect the PS3 to the router ?

My motherboard has bulit in WiFi so I've just connect the antenna and installed the drivers. Not working at present to have some more settings to adjust I suppose

so I just ended up buying a switch today.... should be here wednesday, problem solved

thanks for all the replies from everyone...

Ok well not all fixed with the switch.

I have the router into Port 1, then my PC and PS3 into ports 2 & 3. The PC has access to the internet fine but the PS3 won't autodetect the network.

I assume I therefore have to enter all this info manually :

IP Address
Subnet Mask
Default Router
Primary DNS
Secondary DNS

I know my IP address and the Subnet Mask is already populated.

Can somebody please tell me where I get the others ?

Thanks

ok I put them all in

it starts testing

OBTAIN IP ADDRESS - SUCCESS
INTERNET CONNECT - FAILED

DNS error (80710102)

I'm googling now for it

ISP is Bigpond (Telstra)

I am getting the DNS PRimary and Secondary from the setings web page for the router and have input them correctly.......

I tried the OpenDNS ones :

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

They didn't work.

And the ones on that website for Bigpond :

61.9.194.49
61.9.195.193

Are the ones I have been using........
