Happy new year OCUK'ers!
Been a long time since I was last here and to be honest I have utterly lost track of whats going on in the hardware world.
I have been quite amazed and pleased that my current rig has done so well (detailed in sig).
So in the Steam xmas sales I downloaded COD Ghosts. I didnt bother to read the specs as its, well a CoD game and my system has eaten Skyrim and The Witcher 2, Metro last light to name a few.
I was shocked to see the dreaded pop up box saying I did not have enough RAM.
well I've researched that issue but it's going to be the 1st of many new games wanting more RAM.
So do I buy 4 Gig of RAM for a hundred quid or splash out and build a new system?
Considerations are:-
The 570 gfx card was my last upgrade. Undoubtedly a new cpu will make more of it but will it handle another year?
How do the newer LED screens compare to my generation of 2407 Dell LCD? (+5 years old) If I upgrade the rig will it be wasted on my current screen?
I am currently living in the Caribbean. Heat can be an issue. I have had a few temp warnings mid game. How are the newer CPU's for temp considering I will have to give one a mandatory but safe OC? I'm thinking a massive new case may be required.
Are there really any new games coming out in 2014 that will actually require an upgrade other than RAM?
As you can see my heart says build another rig for the fun of it but my wallet says why? If I only need more RAM?
If I do it would have to be a system that has lasted as well as my current one so it would not be budget.
I appreciate any wise advice as it's going to take me a while to catch up and digest the latest hardware scene and future gaming requirements.
Thanks
Mike
P.S
Overclocking my Q6600 any further is not really any option as I would have to fit a water loop and in that scenario would rather build a new system.
