okay i got:

q6600, 4gb ram @ 1066mhz and a 4870 1gb

do i need a upgrade if i was to get a 24" monitor?

i use it to play fps games. once i get water on it i will oc it

The Q6600 is quite good for today games. And if you OC it to like 3.4-3.6Ghz it could last you another half year.

You could upgrade the 4870 to a HD5850-5870 but I suggest waiting for the HD6xxx series as they're around the corner. The Mainstream GPUs should be launched this month and the high-end ones later this year.

But if you really want to upgrade now....an AM3 based PC will be perfect. And for like 600-700 quid you could get something really good.

I would only upgrade the graphics card at this point, there is still life in an overclocked Q6600 ...... I would wait another month or 2 for the next AMD GPUs to be released though.

Your system is fine.. more than fine..
I still have an Q6600 OC to 3.5Ghz. No problems at all running anything. It does inhibit the 5870 I have but not to a great deal and nothing that ntices in real worls applications and games. I'm certainly waiting for the new generation of CPUs to arrive before i take the next plunge.

I am currently awaiting my new 24" monitor. If I loose any performance, I am going to get a second HD4870 cheap as the crossfire performance matches and sometimes beats the performance of a 460 and 5850.
