Car has MOT tmw, do I need any documents? Current MOT has ran out so not taking previous MOT papers, however I have read you need to take a V5C form? Never have done before?

Yep, you should take yer V5 with you.

Just had one of my cars and my bike MoT'd and when I booked both of 'em in, both places told me to bring my V5 with me.

Think its to do with the new central VOSA MoT computer thingy. If you have an old style MoT, I think they need the V5 docs for details or something.

O crap, they are at home :( im at uni

Ive MOT'd two cars in the last 3 months and neither have needed the V5 or any other documents come to think of it... Both were un-MOT'd to begin with too...

hmm hope this is true :d

Well, I might be wrong, maybe they are not essential.

It's just what the MoT tester told me to do at the time.

Again, no idea what details they need to get from the V5. Chassis numbers etc are all easily found on the vehicles concerned.

Never taken any documents with me when I've went to get my car MOT'd.

You might want to take your old MOT cert if it's still got some time left on it as the garage can transfer upto a month of that onto your new cert if I remember correctly.

hmm im worried now :p they didnt ask for them when i booked it in so I should be ok, we ll have to wait and see :) Looks a right state the car, got a rusty spare steel rim on as one of my tyres is illegal lol :p

nationwide auto centre in chester. Hmmm I have heard from people who have and have not needed it. I think its to speed up checking the VIC number? Hopefully I should be ok.

Yep, they are good. I had my car done for trade their last year, however they were mega booked up when I rang them this time :( My car now has no MOT and I need to drive 60 miles a day so its a bit risky at the minute, so had to book it in asap ;)

Take the spare out (the unworthy one) and leave it at home!!!!!!

It is ilegal to have a spare that is not road worthy, but its not against the law not to have a spare. iirc!

Anyone back me up?

You can go completely paperless if you want, they will just date your MOT from todays date, whereas if you take your old MOT cert and its dated from say end of May, the new one will run till the end of next May, and not the 16th
