Do I need LED?

I am planning on getting a 27 inch monitor for audio work.

Do I need an LED or would a standard LCD suffice for programs such as Cubase and Ableton?

Sharpness is very important.

LED is just a type of backlighting for LCDs, replacing ccfls or w/e we used before.

Advantages include longer lifespan, lower power use, doesn't look dodgy over time etc

If you want sharpness then you need a higher resolution on the same size panel.
