I'm after a UPS but with the price of managed being twice that of unmanaged I'm hoping to get away without it. It's mainly for my server but it would be handy if I could use it with my main rig also.

I'm using WHS on my server and intend on using the Add In Grid Junction to mange the UPS. But my main rig would just sit there until the battery ran out. So I guess what I'm really after is a program on the server that will shut down my main rig when it senses battery use, or the equivalent to Grid Junction for Windows 7.

That would be very simple to achieve.

Just get the UPS software to fire off a shutdown -s script to your main rig with administrative privileges over the network.

As above, you can get APC Smart UPS' with Power chute shut-down software. Connection is normally by USB on the small units.
