I've noticed people seem to be running more RAM these days and was wondering if I will see any improvement on my system if I purchased some more?

My rig is used for general day to day use and gaming. I will be upgrading to Win7 when it's released and I've also got my eye on the the next generation of GFX cards. Will I need more than I've got already?

Also, if I decide to upgrade, do I need to stick to the same manufacturer etc?

Apologies for the noob questions, I just shoot people lol.

Cheers.

Most people aim for atleast 4GB these days, it usually gives better over all system performance and its not that expensive.

for the price of ram today i would get 8gb.

why get 4gb when you can get 8gb for a little bit more.

ive got 8gb of ram (corsiar) and although i saw a big difference when i first started using it i will always have 8gb of ram in my future pc's.

if your in 2 mind's as to how much ram you need then just get 8gb and be done with it and your safe for the future then.

I upgraded to some more ram when it was cheap a while ago, I have had 8GB in my system for quite a few months now and to be honest I dont really notice any difference. I dont do anything which requires lots of RAM.

I will be using the extra 4GB in another system when my bro can afford his budget PC. 4GB is deffo enough for me.

I'd be happy with 4GB :)

Even the i7's mostly use 6gb and that's for a high overclock so i would say 4 will suffice.

i think 4gb is plenty for todays programs and games including the win7 os coming out next month, i would get 8gb but you cant get as high an overclock stable with all your memory channels filled so its upto you, 4gb should be plenty but it all depends on whether you feel another 4gb would be justified for a small performance gain.
