Do I need new RAM?

Although the speed of the FSB does effect your RAM speed, you don't need to change the CPU frequency to change the speed of the RAM. The RAM has it own frequency which can work asynchronously with the CPU.

Are you sure your older set-up wasn't overclocked?

I dont totally understand what you just said there Lol, but i selected "unlinked" somewhere on that page in the BIOS which i thought somehow keeps the ram at 800mhz as designed and the FSB went up from 800 to about 950 i think. there were no overclocking options on the older board what so ever so it cant have been overclocked. i just ran 3dmark06 and these are my results:

Before RAM upgrade and oc: 2515 CPU score: didnt look >:@
After RAM upgrade and Oc: 2900 CPu Score: 626

they are both very low. i took a 3dmark test on my old setup but i didnt keep the score so i cant compare it like that really. You think i should just go all out and see how high i can Oc the CPU under a reasonable temperature and see if i can live with it? Would you advise i get something like an E5200 and would that really sort the problem? or am i going to get problems

Hey guys, i bought an E5220 and that solved my problem. Brilliant CPU, would reccomend it to anyone. Thanks for looking/replying.

Nice to hear you got it solved.

At stock settings, that CPU is pretty good. But do a bit of overclocking and you can take it up to 3.5GHz+ :D Have fun m8
