Do I need new thermal paste/grease?

Hi all,

Just upgraded my CPU HSF from the reference AMD X2 cooler (the 80mm fan variant) to an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro.

When changing CPU I was a bit lazy, I didn't use any products to clean my CPU, just wiped it (a lot) until it looked like new :p
(I was lazy because I didn't have any brand name thermal paste / cleaning fluid and none of my friends seemed to have any either)

Using CoreTemp I'm measuring temperatures of around 31-36 degrees idle.

I'm wondering whether it's worth me cleaning off the reference thermal pad that was on the Freezer 64 (and any remaining residue from the reference HSF) and replacing it with some other thermal paste/grease after properly cleaning the CPU and the HSF?

Banjo ;_;

Didn't think it came with a pad, thought it was a pretty good paste that they had on them.

Personally I wouldn't bother now you've got it on.

I believe the pre-applied paste is MX-1 which is pretty good. I'd be inclined to leave it. I used it for my Opteron 185 @2.6 and temps are nice and cool. I did clean the CPU properly though with TIM-Clean first

Personally I think TIM-Clean is a rip off. I just buy a bottle of Swan lighter petrol for a quid :)
