I'd like to change my GFx card so my 22" monitor can display more than the 1024x768 that i'm currently stuck with, as everything looks really horrible.

My card is the Intel 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV in a HP Compaq system, so i figure its integrated and cant be removed. So assuming i need a PCi GF card, will fitting one of these upset everything, as i will have 2 GFx cards fighting each other. How would i make sure that my system uses a different card thats in a PCi slot ?

Can anyone also recommend what to buy in terms of slot in GFx cards ? I'm currently using XP pro and 760mb RAM DDR ( yeah its a bit old ;) )

The Monitor, by the way, is an AOC N22W

You wont have any problem between the cards if you disable the onboard chip in the BIOS.

If you need a PCI card then you will struggle to find anything worthy of spending money on. You would be a lot better off if you can find a more modern mother board with decent onboard graphics.

While i was waiting for help, i checked for some new drivers for the onboard card, and found one that increases the resolution. I'm now displaying 1680 which looks brilliant !

Of course everything is now really tiny, but looks so much better
