Hi

I am visiting Australia this summer. Do I need a quadband mobile phone to call the UK, or is triband sufficient? If it so any recommendations?

thanks

i've a vague recollection that in austrailia you need a quadband phone. I vaguely remember:

dual-band - europe only
triband - europe and america
quad-band - parts of asia as well.

google should be able to confirm for you

Nope, Australia and surrounding is dual-band.

The only place the fourth band is any real use is in the americas, and even then there are pretty much no countries that don't offer tri-band roaming anyway.

Parts of the far east tend to be UTMS or similar, not quad band.

In short, no, you don't need a quadband phone. The only reason you may ever need one is if you plan on using foreign sim cards in various parts of north and south america and one state in canada, and can't be bothered to check which frequency they use....
