Do i need the router firewall if i have a software one?

As title really, i keep getting problems with the hardware router thinking its being flooded when i search for game servers. I've looked around for a solution and tried various things but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Is there any real problem with DMZ'ing my PC on the router?

Exposing your router to the internet isn't a great thing to do, I have friends in security who run bash scripts finding unsecured ones to run exploits for 'fun'.

Can't you just setup exceptions? Or get a better router.
