Do I need to add DNS as a role? Server Question

Hi guys,

I want to set up a fairly simple windows 2003 server for the purposes of resource sharing around the home. After the initial config when you're presented with the 'manage your server' window, do I need to add the role of dns to the server?

I'm keeping the server completely offline from the web and I didn't know if it would be needed or not for my scenario

You don't need to unless you're going to be using Active Directory.

When you promote it to a DC it will install DNS for you. Remember to configure the clients to send their dns queries to it
