Xmp disabled: temperatures are fine
xmp enabled; temperatures sky rocket (idle and occt)

I had to reapply the h100i so maybe it's the thermal paste I used (I have arctic silver on its way) or I used too much/little... but shouldn't it be running at a higher temp even at a 4.0ghz

If I play around with bios, 4.2ghz 4.3 4.4... temperatures sky rocket

When I'm running occt, it runs at 4.0ghz and temperatures are fine (unless I have xmp enabled them it goes to 4.4)

Any more detailed info yous need let me know.

I don't want to overclock my cpu to death but I'd like it to run at least the turbo speeds without trying to kill itself...

4.0ghz : 50-60 degrees (23 degrees idling)

XMP has hit 85 degrees

When I have XMP off and I've fiddled it myself it's went to around 81 degrees

When I'm playing games etc the temps are fine (@4.0 because I Darent do anything more)

Ive been using OCCT to test.

BIOS is now updated to the current version. (just literally)

Temps are fine untouched (with turbo)

I haven't tried any adjustments as of yet.

Im waiting on a delivery so I can remove, clean and reapply thermal paste. Im just confused as to why it doesn't over heat when I'm running the test when stock?

Thanks for all the info. I will be doing all of the above, reseating the cpu will be done when my new paste arrives... still waiting!

I believe XMP is messing with some volts but Ill have to double check.

Temps at idle, nothing touched in BIOS (apart from my fans). Turbo IS running fine. Memory running at 1333 (it is fine for 1866, I know the motherboard can take 1866+ as OC) but it wont even let me change it to 1600 without making the temps increase.

Ok so Ive manually entered the RAM timings and left the voltage and temperatures are the same, idle and a quick stress test.

So seems its something with the XMP profile maybe? Im still considering changing the thermal paste.
