I bought a Cat C car off a friend last month, I have been driving it in his name so it is still taxed until I can get a VIC. It passed the VIC today and the guy gave me a V62 and told me to fill that in then post, he said I don't need to pay anything.

My question is can I fill in the new keepers parts of the current log book and get my friend to send it off? I can then tax it with the V5C/2 online. The log book is missing section 9 so I don't know if its still valid.

Sending off a V62 will be a pain because I need to use the car for work and I can not tax it without a V5C, the form is saying it will take up to 6 weeks. :(

Yep once the VIC is passed, wait a few days for the system to reflect the pass status and then send the normal V5 off for change of owner.

Done this a few times, the new log book will be issued to you as usual, but with a note in the notes section on the front that the vehicle has previously been accident damaged.

So it is ok to just send off the log book? a mechanic told me today the log book should have been destroyed when section 9 was filled in and sent off. He said i have to use the V62, Have you done recently after the car tax changes?

The V5 very regularly doesnt get destroyed as a very usual situation (as with my experience of it 3 times over) is the car gets written off, but you just keep it and then sell it instead of giving it to the insurance company (after taking it to a VOSA test station for a VIC).

Not done it since the tax changes but they do not have anything to do with change of ownership.
