Hey guys im a big FPS fan, and bf 3, but im wondering how this set up will handle bf 4.

AMD phenom quad core processor, 3.40 GHz
8 gb of ram
windows t 64 bit
2 gb 6950.

Im wondering what my weak points are, and is there any point upgrading yet, because what other graphically demanding games are coming out ?

On the presumption you have been playing BF3 happily on your current setup, then BF4 will run it too-probably have to turn the settings down a little bit as it's probably a bit more demanding than BF3.

You could oc your cpu a bit more to help- this won't cost a penny.

If you want more grunt:

Option 1:

OC current cpu:

YOUR BASKET
1 x HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H795QC3G2M) **FREE SHIPPING** £199.99
1 x Antec Kúhler H2O 620 Series 4 CPU Watercooler £49.99
Total : £249.98 (includes shipping : FREE).

(If you already have a decent cpu cooler, scratch the Khuler)

Option 2:

MB allowing-Socket AM3+(don't know what you have), then this will give you a very big boost:

YOUR BASKET
1 x HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H795QC3G2M) **FREE SHIPPING** £199.99
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8320 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £119.99(should get you ~4GHz OC'd using the cooler below)
1 x Antec Kúhler H2O 620 Series 4 CPU Watercooler £49.99
Total : £369.97 (includes shipping : FREE).

Offset the cost by selling your cpu and gpu. :)

Is the 7950 a good improvement over the 6950 ?

I currently have a 6950 direct cu 2 by asus, what length is that card does anyone know ?

7950 would be quite a bit of an upgrade from what you currently got, however unless you'd upgrade your CPU first, you won't benefit from the faster graphic card, particular in multiplayer on BF4.

Personally if I have to choose between CPU upgrade and graphic upgrade for BF4 multiplayer, I'd rather upgrade CPU first and be able to get average of 50-60fps with the 6950 on medium setting or something, than keeping existing CPU and upgrade to 7950 and only be able to get 20-50fps on average, even if the 7950 would allows high to ultra settings at those frame rate. So simply put, upgrading CPU or graphic card for BF4 multiplayer would be "competitiveness vs eye candy". If you can't afford upgrading to both FX8 and 7950 at the same time, it would worth considering going for a FX-8320 (around £115) and a 2nd hand 7850 (around £90-£100) instead.

You havent mentioned the monitor/resolution u want to run at and the budget u have in mind. :D those will help us helping u.

I've got the FX-8320 OC'd to 4GHZ on air, with a decent H20 cooler your talking more than that. It's also a good corner stone to uprgade you system around. Brilliant CPU for the money.

Is the 7950 really that much of a bargain now that it's back up to £200?

You could get a R9 280X for not much more.

I'd be tempted to go with Thommybhoy's option A. With a 7950 you could run mantle when it's released in December meaning your relatively week CPU might still cut it. The Kuhlers an investment whatever. And you never know AMD might release an 8 Core steamroller part for AM3+ in the new year which promises to be a fair bit better than the 8350, with the addition of that down the line you would be kicking ass.

I think the CPU would be more beneficial, but if you want to do a gpu upgrade I would chose a 280X which is basically a 7970, the toxic (last one) is meant to be about the best 280X as they redisigned it apparently, which is obviously more expensive

Yeah the 280x are dead cheap. He could try upgrading to win 8 as well, but again he needs a 280/79X0 to get the benefit...

Thanks for the help, just checked out my motherboard box its AM3 only,
its an asus M4A88T-V evo.
the ram I have is corsair xms3 ddr3,

I guess my best option is to go for a new Motherboard setup, with new processor and GPU at Christmas, anyone got any good bundles ? don't want to go too crazy with money but may have to, will that ram support a new setup ? thanks again !!

RAM should be fine, you might want to see if it runs on a slightly lower voltage if you go intel.

If nothing else get the kuhler and overclock your cpu, you can carry that to your next build and you'll see immediate gains. Mantle will be out by xmas and there's bound to be some reviews of it on older AMD CPUs. I'd wait until then, if you don't want to splash a lot of cash now...

I nipped into Overclockers yesterday and bought a 8320 (an upgrade from my Phenom 965 BE) Its made a big difference for me in BF3
clocked it straight from 3.5 to 4.0 on air and all is sweet :D
