Do i need to reinstall ATi Catalyst?

Hi all, I just got me one of these due to the special offer http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18105437. I have currently got an HD4650 with catalyst 9.11 installed so is it a matter of just swapping the cards or do i have to uninstall/reinstall stuff?
I'm also very excited cos its the most powerful graphics card i've ever owned

EDIT: also where is catalyst 10.1?

This is what I did recently when changing from ATI to ATI (under Windows 7):

1). Navigate to 'control panel' and 'then program and features'.

2). Right-click ATI Catalyst Install manager and select 'change'. Select options to uninstall all catalyst software, including ATI catalyst install manager.

3). Shutdown computer, install new graphics card and boot computer.

4). Windows will attempt to install drivers automatically, let it do so and then reboot.

5). Reinstall latest catalyst drivers


This is probably a little excessive but it worked perfectly for me. If you want to save time you can just skip steps 1 and 2.

Personally (based on bad nvidia experiences) I completely remove old driver before adding new, even if its the same family, although in truth this shouldn't be necessary. On the other hand it takes 30 seconds so why not?

If you want to, run drive cleaner once you've got your new card plugged in i.e.. before installing the new drivers. It will purge any ati files left laying around from the previous install.

Not sure about nvidia, but with ATI cards, I would recommend against the use of programs like Driver Cleaner; they are simply not needed in 99% of cases.

Catalyst drivers have moved on quite a bit in recent times and they have a dedicated program called 'ATI Catalyst Install Manager' which specifically handles all install/uninstall driver issues.

i dont use 'clean up' programs, prefer doin it manually. But I will uninstall and reinstall just to be safe, hopefully catalyst 10.1 is out by then

Reinstall never hurts and can save time trouble shooting odd problems too. Personally my os installs never last more that 3 months anyway!

In answer to the op, no. The driver package should pick up the new card. However I would install the latest drivers 9.12 hotfix over the top of the 9.11. Thats how I've always done it and not had any problems, touches wood quickly.
