Do i need to update bios?

I have never done this and was wondering if there is any need to? Or what reasons may be to need to update it?

Getting some new hardware soon, ssd, new gfx card etc.

Ive never really understood bios, so the question popped in to my head

Im just wondering why people upgrade there bios i suppose? What reasons are there to do so?

Im going from crossfire 6950s to a gtx 970, overclocking my i5 2500k from stock and getting an ssd

Its an asrock z68 gen 3 board i think will confirm
