I have an Asus A7N8X-X motherboard and I'm trying to use a PCI SATA controller card with a SATA Seagate 500gb 7200.10 hard drive. Windows XP installs the card fine but just won't detect the hard drive.
I've tested the card and hard drive in another pc and it didn't have a problem finding the drive.

Would a bios update help with my problem or is it something else?
If I do need to update the bios is there any way to do it other than finding an old floppy drive and bootdisk to get into DOS?

thanks

have you tried loading the sata drivers onto the system, friend has a similar problem when hes tries to install on his pci linked sata drive.

Hi

Do you mean the drivers for the PCI card or hard drive? The PCI card drivers are installed but I wasn't aware the hard drive would need extra drivers and the seagate website suggests the windows drivers are sufficient?

thanks for your help

the drivers are sata raid ones, normally if you want to raid 2 disks you need them loaded, a friend doesnt actually use raid but has a pci sata card and whenever he installs/re-installs windows he has to load the sata drivers for the drive to be recognised so he can install onto it.

Are these generic drivers? The drivers I installed for the PCI card are raid drivers aren't they?

thanks again

I'm confused and need help :D

The PCI card has 3 SATA ports + 1 IDE port.

It won't pick up the SATA drive (I've tested all 3 ports).

However, if I plug an IDE drive into the IDE port it picks that up no problem and it works fine.

So the PCI card drivers are installed as it's working, so why won't it see the SATA drive?
The SATA drive works absolutely fine when plugged into another PC (direct to the motherboard).
