Do I need to upgrade my AV receiver too?

Hi all, I am thinking of upgrading my TV to LG OLED B6. However, I have a question regarding sound.

Few years ago, I bought a yamaha AV receiver, which came with 5.1 speakers. I connect all my devices to it(PS4 PRO, X1 and Sky HD+). I am not very fussy when it comes to sound tbh and this system is more than enough for me.

Now if I'm upgrading my TV to the above, will this mean the AV receiver wouldn't be compatible?

You'll need to upgrade.

Nope he does not need to upgrade:p he can still use his current amp.

What he needs to do is connect his PS4 PRO, X1 and Sky HD+ directly to the B6s HDMI inputs there are 4 on that model but one of them has a feature called ARC. connect the ARC HDMI input to the amp ARC HDMI input with a hdmi lead and all the sound from his devices connected to the tv can be sent to his amp in up to 5.1 dolbydigital/dts;)

but no TrueHD/MA, no?

So I can't connect the devices to the receiver. I see on the label on the receiver, it says 4K passthrough?

You can connect the sky+ and Xbox 1 directly to the amp yes but the PS4 pro may not work because its requires HDMI 2.0A 2.2 HDCP input. the 4k passthrough may work but you would need to test it.

If not just plug the ps4 pro directly to the lg and run an optical cable to the amp for sound:)

To add to the issues above the 4K pass through on your receiver will only handle 4K at 30fps max so not reallly suitable for gaming anyway, I have the same problem with mine so I connect my PS4 Pro directly to the tv and use optical to connect the PS4 to my receiver for sound.
