I'm currently in the process of upgrading my PC. Originally I was only going to get a new graphics card and then monitor......but then I added a new case to the list.....and now I'm thinking of adding the mobo + processor to the list also as I'm not sure if the mobo will work with a decent graphics card......

My current mobo is Gigabyte 8S661FXMP-RZ with a P4 3ghz. I have 1gb of mem.

I've looked around and settled on getting a x1950 pro 512mb card. Will the mobo + processor cope?

If not, can anyone suggest a good mobo and processor?

The monitor I've decided on is the belinea 22".

thanks

With the amount of money you are talking about spending, I think most people on here would suggest it's time to ditch the AGP/DDR/skt478 kit you have and move on to Core 2D.

In some games the 3GHz P4 would hold your nice shiny new X1950 AGP card back a bit, but most games are GPU limited, so it will be an improvement. But I think you might be better to spend more and update more of the system.

This?

1 AGP 8x ( 1.5 V ) <NOTE.

I think you'll find the x1950 pro 512mb card is PCI-Express which means it WONT fit. (at least I think they are all PCI-Express)

EDIT maybe not (Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (AGP) - Retail)

Your post lacks info like why you are upgrading etc.
Your looking at buying a high end graphics card when the rest of your system is average.
I would guess you'd be looking at a low end Conroe which means new motherboard and ram to go with that grapics card.
You'll need a half decent PSU as well etc etc.

i was looking at the AGP X1950pro.

Orginally i justed wanted to upgrage my crt monitor for a tft and get a better graphics card to play games. i'm not a hardcore gamer but want to play various games now and again. I mainly play FM2007, PES6. i've have a few RPG's and MS Flight Simulator but cant play them currently on my system

As i'm going to upgrade to a decent monitor and graphics card i'll need a mobo to get the best use out of them.

Can you suggest a decent mobo for <£100 and processor for to go along with it which will last the next few years?

PSU and mem will come later.......

Save your money.
The next logical step up from what you have (P4 3ghz) is a conroe.

Most if not all of Conroe motherboards require you to use 240 pin DDR2 ram, so its not a case of "mem will come later", it may be a must.
Most new motherboards use PCI-Express graphics cards, so the AGP one you are considering wont fit.

Your sort of buying old and new bits that won't be compatable.

Save your money, and upgrade mobo / cpu / memory / graphics and PSU if needed.
You may even be able to sell your old stuff to help finance it as it's all compatable.

You could go this route and shove a conroe on it and keep your ram.
Dunno if OCUK sell the board hence I added this part.
