I'm using a dell 2407 with a month old BFG 7600 GT OC 256, both bought from OCUK. I only recieved the dell today and already I want more from it :D (but it is great)I'm new to upgrading and my pc is 1 year old from a national electrical shop. When I fitted the 7600(upgraded from a 6200se) it was quite tight and at first I thought it was too big. I'm now looking at improving this graphics card and need answers to a few questions.


If I bought another one could I run them together to improve performance on 1 monitor? If so which card would run with it?


Is the 7600 a good enough card for a dell 2407? I use it mostly for games and on 1920 x 1200 res thru DVI. Do I really need to get a new one? One game I play feels slower.


How much bigger a card will an 8800 GTX be compared to a 7600? I might not have the space for 1 of these.



my current system specs are

board Board: Fujitsu Siemens P5GD1-FM Rev 1.xx
3.20 Pentium 4
1024 mem (2GB pack being delivered)
GeForce 7600 GT graphics card
Creative SB X-Fi sound card


any advice appreciated.

id get the newist card you can afford because my 7800 sli cards cannot run new games at native res. I really have to turn the settings down to run new games.

no not good enuff card when at 1920x1200.

The size of the xfx 8800gtx is w3.8 cm x d26.7 cm x h11.1 cm

Its all up to you tho if games run really slow at the settings you want you will need a new card.

Basically you need a new PC and gfx card to take advantage of that 24inch lcd.

Or just buy an Xbox 360 and plug that into it.

A new PC? If I have buy the best card then what else is wrong? Surely th monitor wasn't designed for use by super computers only.

Because the GTX is just that powerfull. You really need a C2D to get the most from the card. :) No harm in getting it regardles, it'll just mean that the card still has much more to offer but you won't be able to get at it.

Do you want Vista in the next year or so?

Yes:

Wait until the DX10 card that ATI are meant to be releasing between late Jan and early March then buy a GTS or something similar (maybe slightly less powerful).

No:

x1950xt.

//EDIT - oh and overclock your P4! What's your PSU out of curiosity?

open your case and look at the sticker on the PSU, this should give you all the info.

Looking at your motherboard i guess you have a Fujitsu Siemens PC which means you probably have got some no name PSU (which may be crap :p ).....
 
Overclocking offers gain. No gain comes without some risk.

The risk can be reduced to damn near 0 if your chip allows throttling, you've got a good power supply and you don't exceed the specs of your RAM or M/B Busses.

If you clock in slow increments, don't far exceed stabel clocks, keep voltage sensible and monitor temperatures (high temps is what kills things) then you're unlikely to do any damage.

That said overclocking does carry a risk, and to overclock is done at your own risk.

nah dont think so. my opterons at 2.8ghz and isnt limiting my x1800xt. good question though, id like to know what x.xxghz is the limiting factor of newest graphics cards

Id still get the best card i can afford because i upgrade over time and i will get a better processor when i can afford it then it wont bottleneck.
