Do I need XL tyres?

Hi all.

Oddly, my current tyres are XL tyres (94V), but the sidewalls look (to me anyway) to be pretty badly collapsed. I had assumed I didn't have XL tyres until I checked them. It may be because late last year the tyres kept losing pressure (all of them) and I had to have them all refitted. Maybe some damage has been done due to them running low at times?

So as my tyres are needing replacement I don't know if I need to go for XL tyres again or not. Car is a Honda accord estate 2.4 petrol, but I don't carry heavy loads in it. The squished sidewall tyres are the ones at the front currently.

Thanks.

I'd stick with XL. Bad wear on the edge can be caused by alignment being out, although if it's spread across the sidewall it's probably been caused as you say by running at low pressure.

My minibuses have XL tyres on too, they also look half flat even with 52psi in (recommended in handbook)

Im assuming its a 4x4 or something as 94 is quite low for an XL

If you fit XL tyres to a car that didn't come with them factory, how do you know what pressure to use?

Pretty much all tyres have an XL tag these days.

Maybe they aren't XL then, I just noticed on tyre fitting sites everything with a 94 rating was labelled as XL in the name so assumed they were the same thing.

I run my tyres at 2.4 bar all round. Pretty standard isn't it?

The tyres on my car are Avon ZV5. It's what was on it when I bought the car just over a year ago.
