Hi
I currently run at [email protected] with a GTS 640mb.
I game at 1920x1200.
Is the newer 512 GTS going make any real world difference?
SLI is not an option (dont like the heat) and GTX is too big without using a hacksaw. Just dont want to be wasting my doh
What do you think?

I wouldn't have thought so as your GTS has a bigger bus, so with a bit of clocking, probably be better.

Although saying that, the new GTS has more streams, and more texture etc... units, so it probaly would be better, but by how much i couldn't say, as its a smaller bus.

I've not used a 320MB/640MB 8800GTS but I have used the newer 8800GT and 8800GTS, both very good but the winner for me is the cheaper 8800GT 512MB.

I wonder what the going rate is now for a used 640MB 8800GTS? because I would be tempted to grab the 8800GT and sell off the older card?

How much would you pay to *magic* your card into the newer G92 version?

£20?

£40?

depends what games you play

GTX really is the best option for that resolution on some of the newer games, and at the moment you can get the oc versions for very cheap, it hurts to look at the under 200 quid OC GTX's knowing i payed over 200 quid for my 8800GT OC :'(

mabye a new case??

ive never tried my 8800gt at anything higher than 1280 x 1024, as my screen refuses to let me (grr) so i cant tell you how it will perform up there...

I just bought a 1920x1200 screen, and my GTS 512 runs everything pretty darn well. COD4 with all in-game settings maxed doesn't dip below 35 fps and I would estimate averages at about 50 fps+.

It really depends what games you're playing and whether you see slowdown with your 640mb GTS. It might be long in the tooth now, but its still a good card.
