Do I require a cooler/thermal paste for this build?

Hi, I recently ordered a range of components to build a gaming PC, but it occurred to me that I may have forgotten to buy a cooler or thermal paste, I was wondering if it was necessary for me to buy these before building/playing on my PC.

The cpu will come with a cooler and thermal paste pre-applied, you can change to a better one later.
