Hey Overclockers! Merry Xmas :):)

The PC i have now is Q6600 OC to 3.6Mhz, OCZ SLI 4gb ram, 2x Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB raid 0, 2x 500gb Raid 0, evga 2x 8800 Gt In SLI, Antec 900 case. And Amazingy i have a Hiper Type-R 530W SLI approved power supply. And i have no problems what so ever with the power supply. no hickups nothing.

The parts what iam upgrading is.

Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5850 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping

Asus P6T SE Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard

Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel

Corsair H50-1 High-Performance CPU Watercooler.

Now as iam not going crossfire. Do you guys think i need to upgrad my power supply. at this time because iam sort of money. or you think its ok for now till the new year? And would it help if i removed 2x 500gb raid to put the wattage down.

Thanks Stefan :)

well the power usage of 8800's in SLI, and a 5850 are about the same. i wouldnt cheap out on a power supply, if you cant afford it now i would save up. i have the Corsair TX 750W and its very good, it is also slightly future proofed if i want to add another gpu.

What :eek::confused:

His current psu would probably run his new setup fine, although I'm not sure I'd trust that Hiper psu.

A decent 550 watt would be more than adequate.

As he said.

and 8800s in SLI use MORE power than single 5850.

But as mentioned, I wouldn't trust hiper, as much as it might run that setup fine I wouldn't be surprised if it blew up at some point and took away all your new gear with it.

Exactly. this is the reason that you need a new psu. The Hiper's are extremely poor quality, have weak 12v rails and are totally incapable of delivering their stated outputs.

If it's not crashing or showing any abnormal symptoms don't worry.

I would be more bothered about Hipers famed exploding trick ;)

Saying that i had a thermaltake do it on me and the hiper thing was some years ago.

The PSU you have will run it, but like the people have posted before me, Hiper are not the best of makes in terms of stability or reliability. Its not so much the raw power its the ability of the various rails to deliver the said power.

Your spending what, the best part of £600? throw out the boat and get a solid PSU ~£70 ...if cash is tight ditch the H50 and make do with the retail heatsink for a while.

The PSU is one of if not the most important part of a system, especially if your intending to OC (which by ordering the H50 you must be).
