According to work, I am being relocated to Singapore in January for 12-18 months. Now Im not complaining, but Im unsure what to do with all my things.
They have given me 3 cubic metres of seafreight to send over there. It takes roughly 6 weeks.
Shall I ship my TV, PS3, PC, etc out there and wait 6 weeks, or do I sell it now and use the money to buy new stuff when I am out there? 3 cubic metres isnt huge so I would rather use it to take the furnishings I have here, than spend it on new stuff out there.
Does anyone know how much electronics are out there?

you could take the ps3 in your hand luggage, i would take as little as possible and use the 3 cubic meters for your return with all your new goodies, otherwise you will end up leaving stuff out there if you use your maxim allowance taking stuff out there.

minimise what you take your only going for a short period of time, I wouldn't take any furniture just rent somwhere that is furnished and put everything in storage. You'll be amazed how quickly things like clothes eat up your 3 cubic metres and remember anything else you send will need to be well packaged for protection so will take up even more space.

The plan is, to take my laptop as hand luggage, and most of my clothes as cargo. Work will pay for a certain amount of excess. I get put up in a hotel for the 1st 30 days, as we are given free reign to find our own accomodation as long as its within our accomodation allowance.

Apparently a lot of rental appartments in SG are non furnished.

lol, cheers, looks like Ikea it is!
I think youre right alex, I doubt I will fit that much in my seafreight. I think they give me more space on the return trip.

I work for an oil and gas engineering company. Project based work, current client is Shell, who are building a MEG complex in Singapore. I will be working out there as part of the procurement/materials management team.

I'd sell everything that doesn't have a sentimental value or can't replace without much of a loss.

That said, 6 months is quite a long time, i can live without pots and pans for a week. But 6 weeks of takeaway will kill me.

I concure. Aslo technology over there will be dirt cheap for good things... I assume.

I would suggest, Ship anything you will need, but can cope without for 6 weeks, sell anything you will want right away and buy it when you get there, and store anything else in England untill you get back!

It is a beautiful place, am sure you will have a great time out there, and very easy to get to explore Malasia also. We drove up to Kuala lumpur from Singapore last time I was there, really nice... :D

I would sell your stuff though as you may not want to come back ! ;)
