Hi Guys,

It's been a while since I was really looking into hardware releases and specs. I think it is probably time for an upgrade, but really don't know where to start?

I use my rig for PC gaming. I'm looking to get GTA if/when it finally releases and like to play some of the AAA games.

I'm interested in 4K too, but not sure if that is really worth it yet??

Here are my current spec's. If any of you could :

a) Recommend an upgrade path for me (I guess I want to get to 4K?!?)
b) Tell me to hold off until XYZ comes out

Mobo: Gigabyte EX58-UD5
CPU : Core i7 920
GPU : XFX ATI Radeon HD 5870
RAM : 6GB (3x2GB) Corsair XMS3 PC3-12800C9 1600Mhz
PSU : Corsair TX 850W
SSD : OCZ-Vector 120GB
HDD : Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB
Cooler : Megahalems (2 x Akasa Apache)
Case : Antec 900
Monitor : LG W2452TX 24"

Thanks!!

I would look at upgrading your Gpu. The only real gain in getting a new socket would be Sata 3(6GB). But you could get a Sata 3 PCIE controller card and then invest in an ssd.

If you are wanting to eventually get to 4k, i would wait until the next gen of GPU's arrives so the 970's prices go down a bit and then get 2 of them in sli for 4k.
I know the upgrade itch very well, but sometimes it can work out to just save a bit more and upgrade a few components when new tech arrives ans premiums drop.

4ghz oc on the cpu as you have a very decent cooler capable of dealing with it, and a new gpu. For gaming, the latest cpu's dont make a massive difference over the 920.

id add a new GFX card but 4k wouldnt really be looking into gettin that soon, id wait a few years for that, but you could go to 1440p with one 970/980
