Do I upgrade?

Hi,

I currently have an X800 GTO2 flashed to 16 pipes, with core and memory upped etc.

Ive been looking at the Connect 3d x1900 XT 512mb and have around £220 - £230, which falls nicely into this price bracket.

How much difference would I see on the x1900 compared to my current card?

I have an Athlon 3700+ Clawhammer (s754), Abit Nv8 mobo and some Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3200PT TwinX.

Is it worth shelling out for or do I remain with the current card?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yes it is a big difference performance-wise and your CPU is still pretty good overall. Does your X800 GTO2 not keep up in some games? If it still works fine then I'd probably save the money for a full upgrade later but otherwise you could either go for that card or the X1800XT at £150.

That's quite a steep upgrade by some people's standards, but to me that's about right. The X1900XT will of course blow any X800 series card out of the water, unlocked, overclocked, volt-modded, phase cooled or not. Further still it's got more features (meaning more options you can turn on) and better image quality. My only vague hesitation is that your CPU won't let you fully appreciate the step up. Then again you can always upgrade you graphics card now and enjoy the boost, then upgrade your CPU + motherboard when you've saved up a bit and enjoy the boost again.

Put it this way; I went from an X800 GTO² with 16 pipes unlocked and clocked beyond X850 XT PE speeds to an X1800XT 256MB and the performance increase utterly blew me away. I went from medium settings and no HDR or antialiasing in Oblivion straight up to almost maxed settings with HDR and 4x antialiasing at the same time! :D

With the X1900XT 512MB being a fair bit better than the X1800XT 256MB, I think that it's safe to say there's no way you'll be disappointed and that the upgrade will most definitely be worth it. :)

Much appreciated.

Will stick one on order tomorrow, especially since posting I've read that the price has come down further.

How the hell can Nvidia compete?

ATI cheaper and faster than anything Nvidia, dont need to be a rocket scientist to do the math.

Welcome to the forums. :)

As said above the performance differance will be absolutely massive, you wanna order yourself some new pants while your on. :D

I went from an x800 XT PE to an x1800 XT 512mb, and i still look like this  at the increase, and now with the Connect3D x1900 XT 512mb at only £211 all in, its an absolute steal. :)

Waiting for my X1800XT to be replaced, so I'll pass. :p In the event that I can't get a new one though, which is unlikely, I'll take you up on that offer and hunt yours down on fleaBay. :)

Those GTO² cards are cracking really for what they are.
