Hi,

I'm looking to upgrade my cpu and have decided to go back to AMD. Is it worth waiting for the new Ryzen CPUs or shall I get the first gen ones I was looking at getting at the 2700 would there be a big difference compared to the 1700 that's currently out? It will be the non x version

Many thanks

If it's only 11 days away then absolutely wait it out. I'd be prepared to wait for a month or 2 if it was that close to a new release.

It makes sense because we will get to see what kind of real world improvements the new Ryzen chips bring. As well as that I would not be surprised if Intel respond with a push towards their new H370 and B360 motherboards. They will probably want to steal some thunder too and you might catch some great deals either way.

i guess i should wait and as others have said the new motherboards will be released as well would be better to see what the performance difference is like first

Interesting one. I was going to wait for the new Ryzen release, but a certain large global online retailer had the 1600 and 1600x at ridiculously low prices, like £100 LESS than the original asking price, so I bought a 1600x :). The 1700 has had a price drop but not as big, so if 8 cores is what you need, it would be worth waiting, Tiny Tom Logans site has a post with what seem like reasonable uk prices and the 2700 could be cheaper than the 1700 ~£290 original asking price. As for motherboards, definitely wait for those.

That's exactly why i am asking, seeing a lot of prices being reduced and its hard not to buy one. just wanted to see peoples opinions :)

Sorry for not replying to any of the responses just been quietly reading everyone's thoughts. Seems the most obvious thing to do is wait. Thanks for all the input

I got a Ryzen 1600x for £149 elsewhere, I came to the conclusion that this was my budget regardless, so 2600 was never gonna be on the cards at that price.

I was tempted at buying one i might wait to see what the final prices are though on the new ones. Would i see much of a performance boots ( not just gaming) from my i5 6500 if i did go with a 1600/x ?
