Wait until the new cards are out, it won't be too long now, what would you rather have? A shiney new graphics card? Or loads of beer, a headache in the morning, and smelling of sick? :D

Everyone seems to be forgetting that with the new graphics card will come high prices.
New technology always costs a lot more than the old.

My advice would be to buy now and then if you are not satisfied with the 8800gt you could always sell and put the cash towards the newer technology when the prices have fallen.

Prices are dropping like stones at the moment - if you don't need it, don't buy it yet.

Well I reckon the 8800GT would be a good investement with your PC's spec, since by the time it needs upgrading so will everything else. Any newer tech really won't do it justice.

However, it's still only really worth it if your current graphics card is on it's last knees.

Such a tricky question all depends if your current card is ok if it is just game on medium settings or with no AA/AF :)

Its like its May.. we were half expecting ATI to launch its new range within the next 2 weeks or so... but its now clear thats not gonna happen and all the rumours/news was just incorrect, could be same with Nvidias next card.

Currently theres no real need for it or demand for it since 2008 is the year of "broke".... not unless they released 2-3 good PC games or BF3 for instance.

You can play the waiting game and save a few bucks, or buy now and recoup yours losses by selling it in the members market for less, but its your move and call ultimately.

Currently i have a ati 3450 so u can understand why im in need of a new card,Basically i game at 1280x1024 so would the 8800gs 384mb be a good card at £70 or pay the extra £50 and get a gt.I just dont want to buy a card now and regret it.
So my choice is ..
1, 8800gt for £115
2, 8800gs for £70
3 OcUK GeForce 8800 GTS Extreme @ £138

Dont forget my pc is only a am2 4600 /oc @3.0ghz
and im using a 17inch crt and game at 1280x1024
Also using a bog standard ezcool 500w psu so i need something that aint power crazy

i personally think the GS would be fine at your resolution. My X1950 Pro is about 2/3rd's the power of that and i game quite happily at 1440x900 with it.

Going budget and then waiting for the next big jump is most likely a good plan :)

Yeah, the 8800GS at £70 is a cracking price IMO and more than makes up for the £50 performance gap between it and the GT.

My 8800GT flies with most games at 1920x1080 so I reckon the GS will do you fine at 1280x1024. (I'm guessing it's not too much slower?)

hi,thanks for the replys.
Basically the 8800gs is almost half the price of the 8800gt and with me running games at 1280x1024 on a 17inch monitor i think the 8800gs would be the best choice to go with.
Also leaves me £50 for the pub :)
