Do I wait?

Hi all,

Just had a read through the thread about the 2900XT. My plan had been to wait for it. However after reading this, and several benchmarks for this and the 8800GTS 320mb I'm wondering whether it's still worth waiting or not.

I will be running a 19" Monitor at 1280*1024. Is the 8800GTS 320mb sufficient to run at this res with most eye candy turned on? Im thinking specifically of ET:QW and Oblivion here.

Many thanks,
gamer

Thanks for all your posts.

Yes, as I said I will be running a 19" 1280*1024. While uber AA would be nice, I don't need it. I think the 8800 GTS itself will be a welcome jump from an aging 9600 pro.

All I would really like is between 2/4x AA and some anistropic filtering with most of the extra eye candy gubbins.

Vogon,

Unfortunately the 320mb is probably the best I could afford. Otherwise I definately would be getting the 640mb if only for future proofs sake. If the 2900XT is going to be around that price as well then I might not be able to afford it.

I think I will go for the 8800GTS as I want a good card for 1280*1024 that will last me about a year to a year and a half. I don't mind lowering AA for the sake of gameplay if it comes to that after a year.
