As you know, the c2d's are going to drop in price big time in July.

Im thinking of getting the following (which some of you helped me decide on) soon:
compbr5.jpg

Now do i wait until they drop and get a q6600, ill have more cash then so i could afford it.

If i was, would i keep that mobo and would it be worth getting 4gb of RAM?

Cheers, Dan

I guess the answers to your questions depend on how much money you will have and what you mainly use your PC for plus of course how good the price cuts really are.

You might be also be better thinking of the newer P35 based motherboards such as the DS3R which supports quad core as well as both DDR2 and DDR3 (for if/when that becomes useful) although the DS3P is still a fine motherboard. :)

If i were you i would get a DS3R or DQ6 gigabyte motherboard with a P35 chipset instead of the 965 you have listed their, what size is your monitor? and what comp do you have at the moment, as if you are really desperate for a new pc get a low end E2140 and get a quad core when they come out.

also i think for the money you can get yourself a better case like a V1000 or PC-7+.

in regards to waiting, i'd say no, july will come, and there will be another price cut on the horizon, or a new format coming out, or a slightly better gfx card, and you will be asking the same thing all over again.

if anything, i would suggest buying slightly cheaper parts you would be more likely to upgrade in the future, ie, drop the CPU to a cheaper model.

KK, I cant really afford anything more ATM, im already comtemplating selling a kidney :D

Ill suppose ill keep it like this as ill be 16 very soon and that means a proper job which means £££££:D So ill be able to upgrade more often.

Cheers for the help :D

if you can afford this at 15 (:() then no problems. my house didnt even have a computer till i got to 16, got a job, and put it together all those years ago :p (well...2 years ago :P)

I always think waiting in the world of computer technology is not worth it. There will allways be something new or cheaper around the corner. AFter the july intel price cuts there will be the barcelonas and penryns on the horizon, then you might think of waiting for them. I was going to wait to go to a core 2 duo set up but today i ordered e6320(only £90) and a ga-p35c-ds3r mobo. That way i can overclock the e6320 and then get a quad core penryn chip when they come.

There is never a best time to buy, just some times can seem better than others. Still on the bright side you did get those three months use out of it which you wouldn't have otherwise. :)

yeah i know, hence what im saying about not waiting for the next big thing, as there will always be another next big thing on the horizon.

and it doesnt mean i was any less annoyed ;) i should have got a cheaper one, and then got a 4200 for a similar price :o :p
