do im's use the same port numbers ?

reason being a number of idiots at work have been accepting links and infesting the works pc's with virus'.

work are thinking about stopping the use of msn, wondered if another im out there might use a different port number as i'm expecting them to block it along those lines.

any other advice/info welcome

I don't think all IM clients use the same port. And I think some/most are able to change the ports they use if one is blocked. Hence you'd need to block the service rather than the port I think. Have been some threads on blocking MSN so might be worth searching and see what they came up with.

If they are doing it properly they will block at a higher level, not just by port.
