do optical drives constantly draw power?

Do cd/dvd drives draw power from the psu even when not being used (no disk in the drive?) im trying to minimize heat produced from my psu

yeah but not enough to bother your psu's heat output.

They draw 20-30w when spinning up, around 15-20w during normal access, but draw almost no power when they arnt spinning. Not zero power, but pretty close.
