Do people buy used PSUS?

Yes on the MM (Members Market) which you dont have access to yet sorry :(

Even if you did, would depend on the spec and quality/brand of it.

Auction sites but lots of risks there and best avoided

Members Market?
The members market is provided as a free service to active and contributing forum members. OcUK are not liable for any deals that are done in the Members Market, you are free to buy and sell at your own risk. Please read the rules of the Members Market before you proceed to make your first sale.

Access to the Members Market forum requires two things. Firstly, you will need to have over 1000 posts and have been signed up for at least 180 days. Please note that this does not mean you spam the forums simply to increase your posts, as this action will result in posts being deducted, and if you continue this behaviour, your account will eventually be banned/suspended. Once you reach 1000 posts, you will need to activate your trust. The Trust system is for Members Market feedback only and not to be used for general user comments. Abusing the trust system will not be tolerated and such abuse will result in your account being suspended/ banned. Trust activation is either found in your UserCP, or you can press the trust button that appears at the bottom of all your posts.

Once you satisfy both of these criteria, Members Market access will be granted within 24hrs. Please do not post on the forums asking why you cannot access the members market, if you have any queries, email one of the forum Dons/Admins. The contact addresses are available in the FAQ. There is no buying, or selling allowed outside of the Members Market.

What about RMA replacement PSUs, do people buy those?

I have a duff one here but I don't need the replacement so I haven't bothered, I could RMA it and sell if it's worth it. It's a decent make/model PSU.

It's not something that I would buy second hand. SSD's and HDD's are on the no go list for me too. It's just not worth the chance.
Bought sh psu's before, but only on here. Wouldnt buy one on an auction site. My previous corsair hx 850 that i ran for 6 years came from mm, (still going in a mates rig). Psu in sig bought off another member on here.

i bought a corsair 430 something psu second hand from MM on here, been running 24/7 every day for the past..... 3? 5? years granted its not under a great deal of load. [approx 60 watts max probably around 20 watts majority of the time] no idea what it had been used for before but still going strong

Yeah be careful, if you know it's full history, aka the seller can show original receipt and they have good selling rep. And it's even more imperative to stick with a decent model.

With certain auction sites you get 6 months of protection so the risk is a little reduced.

Personally it depends what you intend using it on, a budget £300-£500 PC maybe worth the small risk. Mid to high end budget £700+ I'd pay up the extra cash and buy new every time.

Agreed, depends on the money the seller is asking. I would personally buy 2nd hand if I wanted a big wattage unit, and couldn't afford it new. If it's a low wattage one, might as well buy new, since they are not too expensive anyway.

Also, buy from people you know if you can, or ask the seller to send you a short video of the unit running.
