Do portrait pictures work above fireplaces?

Perhaps an odd question? I've just finished decorating a room and I was going to have the picture below framed in a decent sized 3x2 format and put above a fireplace. I've only ever put landscape things about fireplaces though so I'm not sure

Its all about proportions if you ask me. Stick a few bits of paper together to the size of the print you want and put that above your fireplace to see if it looks ok. If it looks too tight then don't bother but if there's some room to maneuver it may be ok. Have you got 2.4 m ceiling heights or are you in an older property with either 2.7 or 3m ceilings?

It entirely depends on the room, colour of the walls, your personal preference etc...sooo many variables.

I'd print it off across multiple A4's and stick it together and on the wall via tape/blu-tack - If you like it, keep it up, if you still like it after a week, order a print and get it framed :)

It's a good call treading rying it out. Poster prints are so cheap you could even try multiple sizes over the course of a few weeks before committing to something.

Yup it's 2.7m ceilings, obligatory rubbish picture taken on phone

It might work because the space above your fireplace looks to be taller than it is wide, or is at least square.
My fireplace is flush with the living room wall so i am definitely looking for a landscape orientation, which makes things easier.

I don't think this orientation would work unless you have some supporting ornaments (candlesticks in wood or red?!) at both ends of the mantle.
