In terms of battery life relative to performance then an SSD tends to increase that ratio however in terms of absolute battery life it can easily go either way an average SSD is comparable to an average upto 5400RPM 2.5" mechanical drive. At best your looking at 15-16 minutes better/worse changing one average drive for another depending on useage habits.
Changing from a higher spec 7200RPM laptop drive to a decently efficent SSD could net you an hour potentially depending on useage habits, etc. without compromising on speeds compared to going with a 4000-5400RPM drive with the added benefits in less heat and noise.
