do t mobile sims work in orange handsets?

As title really. I am being given an orange iphone 3GS and was wondering if it will work with a T mobile SIM card?

I know that giffgaff sims work in o2 phones, so I am hoping that because tmobile and orange also share then I may be in luck...

I ask because I have read how much of a pain orange can be with handset unlocks...

Yes, they do.

90% sure my old Sony was locked to Orange (I had it from Orange) and it works with my T-Mobile sim

Thanks. It's good to know that I have a fall back if orange are useless about unlocking it.

No, they don't. They do not have the same network identifier, SIM locked handsets will not work with each others SIMs, it's technically impossible.

The network sharing arrangement is not the same thing as being able to use SIMs in each others phones.

Giffgaff works in O2 phones as Giddgaff IS O2, or more specifically it's a O2 virtual provider in the same way Tesco Mobile is.
