Do the faster factory overclocked GF GTX460's have faster memory?

Hi guys

As above. The factory overclocked GTX 460's running 3800/4000Mhz memory speeds. Do these actually have faster memory fitted than the standard models, or are they just overclocked a bit?

I'm trying to decide if I should save £25 by getting the standard Asus GTX460 instead of the preoverclocked 'Top' model and just overclock it a bit myself.

Failing that, I might go for the MSI Cyclone model. That seems to have good reviews and plenty of usable headroom

You quite literally CAN'T get GDDR4 memory that isn't rate at at least a ghz(x4 = 4Ghz), its the 460gtx memory controller limiting the gddr4 speed, NOT the memory itself. Almost all gddr4 made can do 1.2Ghz or more.

The cheapest 460gtx 1gb is the way to go, last I checked £5 or so more for one that comes at 800Mhz isn't a bad deal though, paying £25 more for similar clocks just isn't worth it at all. Palit it was, £175 or something though didn't notice the memory clock.

I have the cheapest palit with the non heatpipe cooler and it clocks up to 900/1800/2200 with a small voltage increase which is some of the highest stable clocks in the 460gtx thread.... Not bad as its the cheapest and meant to be crappy cooler...

Interesting. So basically if I was to set the memory to 4000Mhz I'd be running it at it's rated speed!
It's mad how quickly things move forward.

it's very quiet and mine doesn't go higher than 62c in games with a slight oc (at least so far)

I take it you mean GDDR5, cards like the Asus 460CU TOP may or may not be good value depending on your needs. I personally dont overclock graphics cards but do look to buy one of the premium brands which come pre overclocked and generally come with better coolers, components and longer warranties. if these things dont matter to you then do as drunkenmaster suggests and buy the cheapest and clock it.
